The King and Queen of the Carnival Carnival is a traditional celebration in Valladolid, where locals and visitors alike dress in colors to bring joy to people and spread joy around town. Every year, just before easter people from all walks of life join “Comparsas” and organize dancing groups to be part of the festivities.
If you want to be part of the Carnival, the festivities spread from February 27th to March 6th. Besides the show, the Carnival also has Mexican snacks, beers, and many other things!
Children’s night will be held on Wednesday, February 27, at 7:00 p.m., with a grand parade that will start at 5 Calles (corner of 48 and 41) and end at Parque de Candelaria.
On Friday, March 1, El Paseo Noche de Corso will depart at 7 p.m. from the former Railway Station and will conclude at the Santos Vaia nightclub. Inside the nightclub, you can see the dance competition among the dancing groups.
On Saturday, March 2, at 1:00 P.M. in the afternoon the participation of Comparsas will have free shows in the parks of the city: San Juan, Santa Lucía, Flamboyanes, Candelaria and Flor Campestre. At night, family events take place in the center of the city.
In addition to the celebrations in the most traditional neighborhoods, the party is also going to perform in the parks around the city: Colonos, X-Corazón, Sisal, R. Bonilla and San Francisco on Sunday, March 3th after 1 pm.
The same Sunday at 8:00 pm, Brenda Zambrano will be crowned as the Queen of the Carnival. Then there will be musical groups in the four corners of the central park.
On Monday, March 4th, the troupes perform in Santa Ana and will be the regional night that concludes with a rancheria in downtown Valladolid.
On Tuesday 5th the Carnival with the presentation of comparsas in the center of the city, and the presentation of the Wapayasos Clowns.
The Carnival comes to an end on Wednesday March 6th, there will be the burning of Juan Carnaval, in the Historical Center, at 7:00 p.m.
