The weather is definitely changing in the Yucatan Peninsula; this last summer was scorching, dry, and long. Valladolid reached really high temperatures this summer, and the thermal sensation reached 46-47 degrees Celsius.

For that reason, we have been thinking about building an earth house due to the outstanding thermal properties and the low cost of building vs. traditional concrete and block.
Despite taking a week-long class in Guanajuato, I was not sure we could commit to self-building.
However, after taking the class, I knew I loved SuperAdobe: I loved the straightforward DYI approach, loved the fact that it is easy to build, and even fell in love with the look!
The only thing on the way of following with my plan was simple: there is not much soil in the Yucatan.
As a result, we decided to use SASCAB, a ubiquitous material in the Yucatan Peninsula. Besides, we got our friend Raul Gónzalez from Proyecto Casa de Tierra to train our workers on the technique.
